Sunday, October 31 - Monster Rockfish Festival

The festival features a Rockfish Cook-Off and tastings with restaurants from the greater Maryland area. Refreshments and live music tours of historic Rosedale Manor and an awards ceremony for Monster Rockfish Tournament participants.  Don't miss the juried arts and crafts vendor area. Pony rides, and horseback, fishing and kayaking demonstrations (weather permitting). The Festival is a SAFE TRICK OR TREATING ZONE to children who come in costume. Other Halloween events include pumpkin painting, costume contests, hay rides, and a pre-carved pumpkin contest (bring your own to the Festival for judging).

Join music educator Jennifer Anderson of Music Time, SoMD at the museum!  Children will explore the music, rhythms, dances and stories of the Native Peoples.  Learn to dance a traditional Native American round dance that blends the sounds of nature with drumbeats, take part in the Iroquois legend of How Hermit Thrush Found the Sweetest Song, and learn a song to help keep the beat while “paddling” canoes. Text/message is student art that confronts what it means to be a teen in the world today. Teens working in all media have submitted works, including, but not limited to digital, visual (2D and 3D), performing, and literary arts. Artworks include text or a message in the body of the work. Submitted works will be posted on Facebook. The public will be invited to vote and/or comment. A professional jury panel will review all comments to determine which works to include in the exhibit.

Saturday, November 13 - Daniel "Firehawk" Abbott at Calvert Marine Museum

Celebrate Native American culture with Daniel “Firehawk” Abbott. Dressed in traditional Algonquian clothing, Mr. Abbott will share his vast knowledge of native people and their world in Stone Age America. He will share his impressive collection of stone, bone, and shell tools and prehistoric weaponry. Throughout the day, enjoy demonstrations of his skill with the javelin and bow and arrow. His collection also includes native animal hides, pelts and robes, baskets, textiles, pottery, gourd and shell containers, stone mortar, and model prehistoric houses.
Where: Calvert Marine Museum  (Staff from Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum will be on hand to show some of the archaeological remains from native cultures dating back thousands of years that have been found on their site.)
